Default lets try this again. "Service Insp." light

when i start up the car, i get a flashing "service insp." light where the odometer reads.

1st, no its not the service oil light. i had that before and followed the DIY on resetting it and it worked fine.

tried the same procedure for this light with no affect. tried both versions for resetting it for the pre 99 and then the newer model version.

is this something i can only reset with a Vag-Com scanner?

i want it to go away

its an indicator that comes on after a set number of miles. you are supposed to bring it to the dealer to have a regular inspection when that light comes on, then the dealer resets it. it is not a CEL or a MIL. the only thing that triggers it is mileage.

I have that "insp" light too. Is the dealer the only one who can turn it off?

I think you need to drive to the dealer, and buy an owners manual.

There is only one "service" light programmed into that cluster, so if you can't figure out how to change it the old fashioned way, the vag com can easilly erase it for you. There is a option for SRI reset. If you plan to DIY at all down the road you need a vag com any way so, go ahead and invest in one.
