letting your car idle to warm up

Yes, me overriding it maybe unnecessary. If it was really that harmful to the motor, I am sure they would have added a safety feature on the tip mode too. Meaning, even if I were to attempt to switch gears, there will be a longer delay until it reachers desired parameters.
My only reason? Preference. I hate to hear the motor run at 3000rpm(and it kinda sits there for a while) at low speeds out in the frigid weather. Would anyone who has a manual do the same?

Like I said, albeit a different car and drastically different motor, my manual RX7 was designed to run at 3000rpm immediately after being started for the "accelerated warm-up."

You may not be able to fine any "studies" on the benefits of warming up your car but I'm sure there's a correlation between ultra high mileage vehicles and the way people who drive those cars take care of them. I know I'm a little obsessive about warming up in really cold temperatures, oil changes, etc. and I'm willing to bet that I'll see my odometer roll over to 250,000+ because of that obsessiveness.

In Finland all cars are equipped with a motor heater.
most parking places have electric plugs where you can plug your car and set when you will leave to work in the morning, it will warm you car for 2 hours before you go.
Winter temp can be up to -30
So i think warming your car is important if it is very cold.
