Loose passenger seat

Loose passenger seat
I noticed the passenger seat in my '96 A4 non-quattro is rather loose. I'm able to rock it back and forth by probably a good inch or so. It's seated in the track and I'm able to slide it back and forth. Is this a quick wrench fix or do I need to pull the entire seat? Thanks for any info!

As you probably know, the seats lock at only a few discrete locations. It sounds like the seat is not fully locking for some reason. Does one side move easier than the other? Or does it move an inch or so evenly on both sides?
I wouldnt just go pulling the seat out. Grab a flashlight and get under the seat and see whats going on. Since you driver side seat is working properly, you can use it as a reference.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I've moved the seat to several different positions including all the way forward and all the way back with no success. It does the normal "click", but is still loose when locked into position. I took a look under the seat and the problem appears to be coming from a bolt looking piece that goes through the right slide (if facing front of car) that is clearly loose when I shake the seat. I'm not sure if this can be tightened in any way as the "bolt" doesn't have a head on it, but rather a smooth rounded finish.
Thanks again for any advice on this.

hmmm....it looks like you found the problem, now for the solution...i dunno
lol, sorry, I will have to look at my seat to see if I can help you. Does the "bolt" appear loose or could it be partially broken? Can you upload a picture?

The "bolt" thing that you mention - on my car this is a cylindrical piece of metal that is welded to the seat. Atleast, I think this is what your talking about. At this point, you may want to pull the seat out and have a good look at it
