check your timing, its kind of hard to do with the front clip but you can finangle a 1/2 breaker bar down to the crank pulley, roll it over till the timing marks line up then pull your valve cover off and see if the gold part of the cam chain lines up with the timing mark. when you did the timing belt did you roll it over with a ratchet first to make sure there were no weird noises or interference?

I don't believe that my car is "chipped"; i.e., whatever I have, it's stock. I drove the car today about 30 miles. It's running but very poorly. It has no power and there seems to be some misfiring. Oddly, it idles relatively smooth when I'm at a stop but it idles very rough if I'm rolling. Hopefully it's just crappy spark plugs, fowled plugs, or a loose hose ...... I ordered a scan device and new plugs online but they will not get here for another day or two.

What plugs should I be using? I'm getting conflicting messages between news forums and different websites.

ecstuning said I needed NGK BKR6EK plugs (which I have ordered ; why BKR6EK as opposed to BKR6E?). However, the NGK site says that I need the NGK PFR6Q plugs. The audi dealership said I needed part number 101000063AA plugs (which I've tracked down to being NGK PFR6Q ...?).

I really hope it's my single electrode copper "autolite" plugs causing my misfires and poor performance .... I really don't want to take the bumper off again .....

I think you just need the top of the line NGK platinum plugs. The 12.99 ones

Did you unplug the cam sensor? It's a one-inch rectangular plug at the end of the head. Look at the pic I've linked. It's the round silver sensor near the top of the face of the engine, straight up from the t-belt tensioner, and above the timing belt.

could this be caused by the oil in the spark plugs / boots or the shitty autolite plugs? Or could this be due to messing up something when doing the valve cover gasket? I'm hoping this isn't because the timing belt and tensioner was put on incorrectly .....

I'll look in the morning when I've got some light. Is she safe to drive on to the store and back?

It says your sensor is either shorted or open, meaning it's either dead or unplugged.

would this explain the lost power and misfires? Or is it a combination of this sensor and my shitty autolite plugs? Would it be safe to drive on tonight? 30 miles to work and back.
