Default Low Oil Pressure light

Hi,

I've been having a problem with my oil pressure light as of the last couple of weeks. The car drives fine, no engine problems otherwise. However, recently when I start the car up cold, the low oil pressure light will come on. I'll turn the car off and then turn it back on and then the car is fine. Any clue what's going on here? Thanks

I had a similar case in my 02 a4 for a very short period of time ( 3-5 ) days. Upon hard acceration my check oil light flashed ( yellow ) in the display but not the red indicator of no oil at all. I stopped the car checked my oil level everything was good there, started the car up drove away with no problems. Over the next few days it happened here and there usually under hard acceleration. A few things to point you in the right direction is you have a bad pressure sending unit, clogged pick up tube, or you really do have low oil pressure, then you would have to pressure test it and find out. Not knowing how the car has been maintained i would drop the oil pan and look at the strainer. Depending on your engine you may need to lower the subframe to access the back pan bolts.

Oddly enough, mine hasn't gone off in the last couple of days.

what oil?

what ambient temperature?

could be an oil viscosity issue (if only on start-up when very cold outside)

Default help

Looking at buying a 2002 A4 3.0 v/6. Asking price is $5000. It has oil light coming on at acceleration, stays on after for a bit. No engine noise. Check engine light comes on sometimes, oxygen sensor he says. ABS light comes on sometimes also. Car looks great. Just not sure I want all the problems. Is it worth all the problems-money??It has 110,00 miles on it. Do not know any history of vehicle. Present owner has owned it for about 10,000 miles. Help please. Claude

Thread jack much? posting a question on someone's thread is considered rude etiquette on forums.

create your own thread if you have a question. Don't jack someone's thread to ask a unrelated question.

Its selfish as it does nothing to help the creator of the thread.
