Default Lowering

I have 19" wheels on my A4 1.8T (2001), and I want to lower it and I don't know if a 2.4"drop in the front and 1.9"drop in rear is a good thing,I don't know if my tires are going to rub on the fenders;
can anyone advive?

Normally the offset of the wheel will determine if you rub, but wheels that big and going that low will probably mean you definitely will. Not to mention you'd camber the hell out of your tires as well - you don't want to be replacing 19" tires a couple times a year. It's going to get tedious and painful for your wallet.

^that's right. Wheel width, height, offset, and tire size are all factors to consider.

All the factors in this thread need to be taken into consideration but being that you already have the 19" wheels here are a few suggestions I have for you.

You need to consider what your "real" needs are. Is this a .....

Track car,
Auto cross car,
Daily driver,
All of the above

These questions need to addressed, as well as how much time at each if any, the car will see. I have had coilovers before and have never had to touch them again, and I have had springs and shocks and wished I had coilovers. I currently run H&R sport springs on Bilstein sport shocks set on the lowest perch all around with 235/35/19's and have no problems. I did however have to do a few modifications, like roll the front fenders and trim the splash shields. As far as camber goes I have had no problems with wear, but then again toe will eat away at your tire far more than camber will if it is not correct, and you will also feel it more.

Toe

l l = Good
/ \ = Bad
\ / = Bad

This is an exagerated view but you get the idea. Here is a picture of how my car sits now and take into condsideration that I have a JL Audio Stealth box and a full size 19" spare. The 19" spare is not that much heavier than the 17" I was running, and the box as well is not that heavy either. The only reason I bring this up is because, again you need to take into consideration what the car will be used for. A cars suspension built for quarter mile racing will not do well at all on a road course, and vise versa. I hope this helps a little.

Very good post! I just wanted to clarify for the OP that those views of toe are what you would see from the top of the tires, not the front. I think I'm running `-1.5 degrees camber right now and have for probably 4,000 miles and I have no abnormal tire wear.

Thanks for all the advice, I really don't drive my car that often I've had the car for 2 years and I've put almost 10,000 miles on it. I have 235/35/19 onit. I,m just trying to make the car look good, but alsoif I have to drive it from Georgia down to Florida I will have a smooth ride.

If your going to drive it long distances than I would go with some sport springs to be safe not to bottom out or cut a tire. Most people go for looks thought and slam it on race springs.35-42mm offset 9.5w 19" Is the max rim I've heard has been run but you'll probaly bottom out if you don't run coilovers and adjust them to your liking.

Well if you just want it for looks and want a smooth ride, I hope my picture gives you an idea as to how it could look, although I have not driven in to many lowered cars that ride and handle as good as mine for everyday use with 19's. I have ridden in better handling cars but with smaller rims. My set-up is also not as expensive as coil-overs and I don't know if that is a factor for you but it is something else to consider. If you are considering coil-overs, STaSIS street sport, and Koni's are two very reputable company's for Audi's that have a good reputation for ride and handling.
