Maf questions
So everyone knows venting a DV will give you issues with driveability, but couldn't you in theory move the maf past the DV location and eliminate this issue? Also I thought I read somewhere unplugging the MAF will allow your car to run the stock fuel maps, does it really work, and are there any adverse effects?
If you mean post DV, pre-turbo, MAFs need a laminar flow to be able to gain accurate readings, the DV will most likely create a turbulent flow as it compressed air into the intake pipe.
I don't know about Audi's specifically, but if you unplug your MAF, your ECU has no idea how much air is entering the engine--generally causing your engine to run like ****. I don't see why simply unplugging the MAF would change the fuel maps in the ECU.

No I'm talking more post turbo post DV, possibly right before that long pipe that runs across the car to the innercooler. I'll keep looking it up, but theres a youtube vid of a guy whos MAF was bad and the car would barely run, but he disconnected it and the car ran smoothly..
Our MAF is not designed to act as a "Blow thru" and this is because a turbo produces really high Air Temps and that would pretty much melt our sensor and cause it to read much higher numbers seeing that the temps would be much higher.
You can run with the maf unplugged in a 2001+, but the ecu also uses the maf to figure out how much timing it should be running by using load readings. A bad maf is going to really throw off everything and cause it to run badly. You can not just unplug the maf on a pre 2001 because those cars use a narrow band 02 sensor and dont use it at WOT to adjust fueling. Narrow band 02 cars use the maf and maps to help adjust the fueling needed but do not have a set target AFR to hit. The wide band cars use map, maf and the 02 sensor to help it hold a target AFR 100% of the time.
