It is isolated. The symptoms he described were those of a broken pressure plate (common in A4's with worn clutches or new clutches and a reused pressure plate). I'd like to know what went wrong with his transmission that requires replacement.

The only time I've ever seen A4 manual transmissions replaced is due to bad syncros or blocking rings, which is often the result of missed shifts or running on low gear fluid.
