My mistake, maybe they added them starting in 00?

I did a writeup on removing stuck radios a while back, its not too hard. I think making a fiberglass enclosure wouldn't look right, just my opinion though

Mine is a 2001, and I know I have them, I didn't even think about that, thanks CCA4

Yeah, as I'm thinking about it, I'm not so sure
about approaching it like that. I might just mount it in the corner like lm0812. But again, unless I can find a good, but inexpensive headunit with a GPS, I'm not going to replace the radio. By the way, do you have a link to that write-up. I could sure use it because I want to clean my HVAC buttons from the inside-out (as per this DIY: http://www.zener.com/audi/HVAC_cleaning/ ). Mine's a Double-Din, but I still have to remove the radio to get the sucker out.

Really? Even the rear "C" pillars?

I am curious to see someone make a standalone GPS look stock.

well it's a curtain airbag, so it pretty much covers the windows, so yea.

I really want to go ahead with it, but my main problems are finding a navy blue vinyl or suede material to match the rest of the interior and finding the right spot to place it. Also, I'm trying to engineer some sort of ejection mechanism; I have an idea in my head, but I'm trying to figure out how to build it.

You scared me a bit by starting off with "this was a horrible idea" lmao. But good write-up, thanks for posting.

My 01 has c pillar bags, I think. Theres a little Airbag logo on the pillar..

I put my gps next to my rearview mirror on the passenger side, works great.
