malfuction indicator light just came on, help please.

Default malfuction indicator light just came on, help please.

Well i just bought a 1997 A4 2.8L, now the malfuction indicator light just came on and i don't know what to do , if someone could give me some advice or if resetting the ECU will help? Please let me know what i should do. Thank you.

take it to AutoZone and have them scan it for codes, then post them here.

PO401 EGR valve flow insufficient, so that's what it is the guy said it could be clogged and just needs to be cleaned or it needs to be replaced, so what exactly am i up against here?

Ive read that the EGR rarly fails on the 2.8. clean it first. you need a 10mm socket and a 22mm "crow foot". Remove the throttle body. Some have a torx some have an allen head
