mass air flow sensor - how to take out?
I have a 2000 audi a4 1.8t. Right after changing the air filter, I drove for about a day or so and then I got a cel, p1128, with the car lacking power around 40 mph and above. It also says that this code might be triggered by possible vacuum leaks, but I made sure that all the clamps were tightened as before opening the air duct and changing the air filter. How big of a leak would trigger this cel and such loss of power?
From reading on this board, there is a possibility that the MAF might've went wrong, so I would like to go ahead and try to clean it. I've read alot on this board but am kinda confused as to where this MAF is located. How would I go about getting it out? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.
And one more question. What would cause the MAF to go wrong right after an air filter change? Any ideas, pointers?
Thanks alot fellow a4 owners.

its the round pipe that goes into the compressor inlet that has a plug sticking out of it.. Did you use a K&N filter? Cuz they tend to be over oiled and could have greased up the sensor. Be very careful when cleaning so you dont damage it.

it wasn't a k&n filter. now, what hoses can I check for vacuum leaks? does anyone have a diagram of vacuum hoses? and is the maf located inside the airbox? I'm a little confused about this maf thing, a pic would be greatly appreciated. thx

Take a look here

In picture #5, you see that woman holding that part (upper portion of the airbox), MAF is located inside of it.

Maf
Do you see the round rubber plug, about 2" in diameter at the very top of the air box in picture #4? That is the cable going to the MAF, you may have disturbed the connection.
I would lubricate the wire sleeve with some Armorall then work the round rubber plug loose while pushin more wire into it, so you don't strain the connector. Once the round rubber part is loose from the air box you can see the MAF connector. Push the connector on then put the plug back in.
