I am considering buying a 1996 a4 2.8 quattro. Here is what I know about the car:

1996 a4 2.8 quattro
130k miles.
trans has issue: will not go into reverse.
It also has intermittent starting problems.

The seller is asking $1000. It seems like a good deal, I'm just wondering whether I should go for it or not. Can you guys also tell me if there are any other things I should be worried about when buying the car. The car would mainly be a project car and I plan on doing all of the work myself on it so i am not worried about labor costs. I currently have a b6 so the car is just mainly going to be a fun project. Thanks

 

Well if its a project car keep in mind there literally no power mods for the 12v V6. The no reverse may require a new tranny, not sure of your ability and tools but it's probably a bitch to do on jackstands. I would pass and find a 1.8T w/ the AEB head ('97-'99) and build that instead.
