Default Midas? Any other ideas?

Ok, so my check engine light has been on forever due to my cat, its starting to rattle a little so I figured I would get a new one and do my exhaust now. Custom is the cheapest way to go so I went to midas today cause they said they had to look at it first. This clown comes out and shakes his head, I"m like huh? He tried telling me its too much back pressure and it would cause the light to come on and they don't wanna be repsonsible. I told him whatever just do it and they won't touch it. I've called a few other shops and no luck as well. Any ideas? I don't wanna spend a grand on an exhaust cause i've got some other things to do first.

go to autozone, and they'll scan for codes for free then come here and post them, autitech or another tech will help you out. stay away from midas, i've heard some negative stories about them.
