Default Motor swap question

I have an 01 A4 1.8t AWM. My timing belt snapped and bent my valves. So im deciding weather or not to swap out the whole motor or just repair the head. My question is will any AWM motor fit my car? (I.E. from a passat or jetta) Do I have to replace it with an AWM motor?
The shop is gonna pull the head and see if the pistons got damaged. That will, actually, be the deciding factor.

Either fix the head or replace it with any 1.8t head (AEB is the only one that is different, bigger ports).

Slow and strong. Think a rear caliper needs changed but im trying to not to dump money on the A4 until i can get the TT back on the road.

If its just the seals you can pick up a rebuild kit for those calipers on the cheap, though i imagine you already knew that. Welcome back man!

Yeah, if there's no damage to the pistons I will repair/replace the head only. My question is if I do have to replace the motor, do I have to replace it with an AWM motor or can I use any 1.8t?

Theoretically, you could use any 1.8T. However, if you did that you'd also have to swap out the ECU and a good portion of the wiring harness. It would be much simpler to just use another AWM.

The AWM is the only bolt in place setup. A AWW, AWP, and BEA will work but you have to swap the oil pan and pickup since they are different from the transverse to longitude. You can get other 1.8t's but you need to swap the non-vvt chain tensioner to a vvt one.
