Actually he could go with a AMB out of the B6 1.8t which is basically the same block/head his 01 has. Audi put the 06A in his 01 as a test bed for the B6 1.8t.

 

thanks, thats what I was looking for. I can pull the oil pan and pick up from the old motor but can I do that with the cam chain tensioner? The AWM is quite elusive so I will most likely have to go with a different coded motor. I just got this pic from the mechanic. Most likely will have to replace the motor.

 

Im guessing, but dont want to make a $1500 mistake, that the passat motors with the right code will fit. Right? Obviously Ill have to switch out the mounts and manifold.

 

Passats are actually longitudinal, so it would be a direct swap as long as the engine codes are the same.
