good thought, but he didnt say he was out of power, just "down a little"... I bet the turbo is soon to be shot

Sounds like it's coming from the valve train! Like a lifter gave up or something.

That's a hell of a rattle... when was the last time you changed those muffler bearings???

I just pulled the cat back from the turbo. No metal shavings or broken fins. No monolith floating around. No shaft play in the turbo. Not even oil around the shaft!

I guess I'll have to pull the opposite side of the cat to check for damage on the other side of the monolith.

Did you put the stethoscope on top of the valve cover? Give that a go and see if the cam chain is noisy... the guides, as you well know, are a wear item and might be starting to give the chain a little slack.

It's definitely the cat rattling. It's getting worse and the car is a slug. I'm probably ordering up a Labree HFC next week. I can't go with a test-pipe because I'll fail visual inspection in CT. I give an update when I get a chance to order and install it.

Just an update, Labree sent me a very nice high-flow cat. Great people, great service. I'll post again when I finally install it. Cold. Rain. Boo.

New cat installed today. I'll post a little write up with some pics. Car feels like a rocket compared to the noisy, clogged OE cat.
