If I had to guess, I would say that the cat asploded because of the misfires, not the other way around. Driver's side is Bank 2 IIRC, sounds like your coil pack might be taking a ****. How do your plugs look on that side? Any oil on them? Are the tops of the pistons wet? I assume you scanned the car, can you post up the full print out of the codes?

Coil pack provides power for two cylinders per coil. Each coil provides power to one cylinder on each bank. So if a coil was bad I would think you would be getting more than just misfires on one side.

ya i tested the coil pack and im getting white spark.....the plugs arent covered in oil, my guess after narrowing down a few things is the cam position sensor, would this cause a misfire so bad as to blow out my cats?

Has the timing been messed with recently? I almost bought a 30v motor that looked mint, except one bank had perfect compression and the other had zero, guess what the cause was. You could try swapping the cam sensors, it's a 5 minute job and at least it'll rule that out. But most likely it's not that because there's really nothing there that can go wrong with the cam sensor, generally it either works or it doesn't with no kinda working stage.

Do you have any way to scan the car for codes? I had one a while back that said I had a bad cam position sensor. I replaced it and the code never came back. My car wasn't showing any signs of having a problem though. You could try switching cam position sensors between the two banks and see if the problem moves to the other bank. Although if that is causing you to blow a cat you might blow the other cat as well. The passenger's side is on the front behind the upper timing belt cover. The driver's side is on the back of the engine. You don't have to remove much to get at the driver's side.

You definitely don't need service position, they're right there under the top cover, just go out and look. Check the physical timing marks on the cams at least, maybe they're off a bit.

Just remove the top timing belt cover and it's right there. Take out the two bolts that #1 is pointing at.
