Can someone tell me what this plastic cover thing by the throttle is for? I have "a feeling" the slight knocking comes from somewhere there. Not sure... Am I the first/only one that has this problem?!
I have pulled the throttle with my hand but didn't feel anything (engine running). I feel it only if I press the gas pedal.

I have a 97 with that cluster and steering wheel.
the wheel bearings have to be pressed into rear hub if he had brake issues as well they might have replace it as well

dont know about nthe s4 cluster but you should be able to swap a4 clusters...dont quote me on that though because when I converted my auto tranny to tip there were no wires for it so i had to run new ones to the tcu lol

I got my car back. The noise is gone and everything, except the brakes, is alright.
One last issue: When I press the gas, I feel some really soft knocking (didn't even notice during the test drive). Has anyone had this before?
The engine runs well and reacts fast when I give gas but it bothers me and I need to find out what it could be. It's also when I idle/stand and give gas and the "knocking" varies when I press the pedal further down, too.
It seems to be a little random and not steadily recurring.
Could it be a belt of some kind? Any ideas?

Thanks, so the cheapest new air mass flow sensor that I found was $178. I was told it's only around 70-80 € in Germany.

I know exactly what you are talking about, it is VERY faint and I feel it usually when I am on the highway with the gas pedal pressed down to keep a consistent speed. I don't know what it is but I think that I also detected it when I kept my foot on the brakes for a consistent slowing from 65mph - 0 (I live in NJ so this is common). Because I felt it in both pedals I am not very worried and it may be a physical design of the pedals.
