Default Is My Turbo Stock

Well , I bought my A4 a fewdays ago and it runs fine, butI kept hearing something loose in the exhaust at idle, finally got a few minutes to put it on the lift and saw it was coming from the Cat, so I took a wiz wheel and cut a flap in it, I had no choice but to remove the contents, which is usually a good thing, and when I was able to see into the turbo side of it I found a turbo impeller just rolling around in there, never seen this before, I can't beleive it made it down there and did'nt blow out the side of the turbo. So I checked my turbo, it's marked Garret M24, is it stock, good, bad etc. And also there was no filter on the intake, great, did'nt catch it when looking the car over, but everythings OK and hopefully was'nt run that long like that, so I picked up a K&N and some elbows and took care of that, but can anyone give me some input on the turbo???

The turbo you have is a gt28 series turbo with a gt28r compressor cover. Cant really tell which one you have w/o the part number or measurements. So it can be a gt28r, gt28rs, gt2871r, or any version of those in an eliminator. If you can take a pic and find the part number on the chra, you can match it to the one at turbobygarrett.com

You compressor cover looks like this, M24 is below the inlet

...That would be a nice find...
Wouldn't the previous owner inform the buyer of a modification like that?

Depends on the buyer. If i think it would sell the car or not would depend on them knowing. Doesnt mean if they asked i would lie.

no it's not factory. you could be getting crappy mileage, that depends on your driving and the actual setup, not just a turbo. well i think you should replace the turbo and put up pix of your engine bay.

You are running a larger turbo with larger injectors, your city mpg will go down a bit while your highway will remain the same. But yes, take a pic so we can see what kind of setup you have

I'll post some pics, but why should I replace the turbo?

Sounds like your turbo is fucked.
