Default It was my understand that:

I was messing around on craigslist checking out b5s for sale. And i saw some guy's post selling his '99 2.8. He said it was chipped for an extra ~20 hp.

It was my understanding that there were really no engine mods for the 2.8 to boost horsepower.

is this guy an idiot? or have I been misinformed?

You can chip the 2.8 30v for minimal hp gains.

I wouldn't recommend it... from what I hear the price to power ratio isn't worth it at all. I've never looked into it since I'm 12v.

GIAC has a chip for 2.8's but no one really gets it since the cost (IIRC $500) isn't worth the gain.

Although I think SpeedTuning sells them for $250ish. Some people here had it their 2.8's chipped, hope they can pitch in.

I've driven a 2.8 before and after it received the chip and the difference is noticeable. Peak power gain is likely around 5hp but the midrange torque is notably stronger and smoother. Redline goes up to 7000 and speed limiter is deleted. For tge bump in torque, right in the range that most of us drive daily, plus the smoothing of the powerband, for the GB price around $150 the SpeedTuning chip is well worth it.

$249.99 says you get 20 hp but i doubt it would actually be that much.

I think id pick this up

I wish I had a 30v now! I forgot about torque and overall smoothness. For $250 I'd do it.
