So my car has been sitting for a while and I got into it and the battery was dead so i just got a new battery and installed it in my car. When I start the car the rpm's are around 500 which is low... and when I push the accelerator the car takes a while to respond. When I try to drive in first gear as i realize the clutch the car has a bit of a jerk to it when i attempt to accelerate. I recently sold my 007 forge to my buddy who has a 1.8T VW GTI and he gave me his DV so that might have something to do with it.


Any ideas???

Do a throttle body alignment.

 

A. How if possible do i do that by myself?

B. how much would it cost to get it done by someone, although the car is not really drive-able...

Disconnect the battery for an hour, then hook it back up. Turn the key on (without starting the engine, and listen under the hood. You'll hear a high pitched humming sound. That's the throttle body aligning itself. Once the noise stops, you're done and can start the car and drive.

The rest of the jerkiness can in part be because the battery was dead, the power caps in the ECU were discharged, and the ECU was put back into relearn mode. It's got to sort itself out and figure out what it's doing over the course of a few days' driving and then, between that and the TBA, it should be fine and back to normal.

I don't think that's the problem.. i tried that and now when i start the car the rpm's reach about 200 then the car shuts off as if the battery is dead even though it's a new battery and reads about 12v
