Default Need Help With 1996 a4 Keyless Entry Programming

where to start. Got the car no remote just one factory key. Got 2 blank copies made at the audi dealership.

Started looking for the 1996 specific keyless entry remote. Tracked a used one down on ebay, got the remote. Followed the instructions as followed:

1:turn key in ignition to on.
2:2 key turn in drivers door lock
3: press and hold both buttons on remote until the car responds and repeat for each additional remote.

Ive done this and slight variations as suggested on other websites to no avail it doesn't work for me.

I realize 1996 was a rare bird, I've spent lots of time tracking down forum posts everywhere with people having issues and how to resolve them. One site suggested that the keyless module was under the back seat, I found a lot of wiring but only the abs module.

In the trunk is the central locking mechanism as is most euro cars. Another source suggested that the cenral locking module/vacuum is they keyless entry module as well. I know my central locking works for sure no leaks or issues, and does everything from putting the windows up and down when you hold the lock or unlock from the outside.

My question is what am I doing wrong. Do all 1996's have keyless entry modules or not, I'm starting to think I don't but I keep findin conflicting information. Any information will be super helpful Im desparate now.
