Need help with locking system...
Hey guys,
Well today I went to unlock my car... and nothing.... there is a weird humming noise coming from the trunk... So I know the Central Locking System is toast.... So I have two questions...
1.) Where can I find that part? And what is its real name?
And
2.) How can I get my trunk open? The main start key doesn't work, and ontop of that I didn't get like a trunk or valet key...
Thanks guys!

through the back seat there is a hook you can pull thats on the decklid i have my back seat and trunk stripped so ill take a pic and send it to you if you like, but only if you cant find it yourself LOL.
The locking module may be ok and you just have a leak. Only way to know for sure is to open up the module and look for a broken vacuum pump. If it looks ok, unplug the hoses and see if you get suction when activating the locks.
Does your key open the glove box? If not, it is a valet key or the car has been partially re-keyed. You can always go into the trunk from the fold-down back seat and unlock the trunk from the inside. Bring a flashlight.

I forgot I had a spare key, and the spare is the main original car key...
Anyway...
I found a way to open the trunk, and I took out the pump... I unplugged the hoses, and nothing, no vacuum, no suction, nothing... All it does it hummmmm... So I guess this means new pump?

Yeah, the pump sounds cracked then.
The whole module is not cheap, but you can goto your friendly local auto salvage yard that is a you-pick-em place and pull the pump out of a Passat or other VW product. They are supposed to work in place of the Audi one. Saves you big $.
I've also seen them on Epay for like $100US but I would go the salvage yard route. Any techie could proly change your pump out if you don't want to do it.
Here's a DIY http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec149.shtml on that.
Hey, Texas_P, I have a theory about the pumps and the ferrite parts spontaneously cracking like they do. Have you hit any hard bumps recently or have some giant subs in the trunk ? Just wondering.....

I have a 12W7... that pushes 130 Db easy... So that's the huge sub that vibrates constantly... :-/
AND>>>
I live on a pothole dirt road, where all I hit are bumps....
So to answer your question.... yeah, it was probably a combination of that and the sub... I'll go to my local yard sometime this
week...
However, when I took the pump out to check it, it was surrounded with some foamy stuff, so wouldn't that cushion it enough? Well obviously it didn't... hmmm

The part that breaks is inside of the box. More foam or tar-ry sound deadening material ftW I guess.
Forgot to say, if you can, just buy the pump inside of the module and replace that piece. Doesn't have to be an A4 and no recoding of remotes required this way. Cheaper too. Check the DIY, k?
