Problem solved
Well fellas, thanks for all the input. It was spot on, the slave cylinder was leaking. Replaced it, and viola, back in business.

I was too busy to do it myself and needed the car back quick, so we paid $300 at an inde shop. Yeah I know, I don't make $90 an hour at work, but what can I say?

Could you explain that bolt? I rolled over one when this happened to me
hey I rolled over a bolt and grabbed it just in case could you explain it at all? I have a picture of the bolt but didn't know if it was from my car or just side of the road thanks man .
Quote: i know its a long shot, but u may also want to check your bolts where the tranny connects to the motor. i was doing a motor swap on my old car (not an audi) and found that the tranny bolts somehow made their way loose and so whenever i pushed in the clutch pedal, the slave cylinder rod was pushing out the entire tranny rather than just the fork, causing the tranny to not shift gears. it took me a long time to figure out this was the problem because i was working alone and therefore couldnt tell that the entire tranny was moving when i pushed in the clutch pedal since i was inside the car
