Unhappy need some help (it just never ends)

my car is making a weird noise. it sounds like the cooling fan is on. i hear it more at higher RPM's but since i have exhaust its hard to tell exactly what it is. i heard it from the outside of the car as well when i got home (i sort of stood outta the car and hit the gas, so i couldnt get close to hear exactly what it is) the car is idoling(sp?) fine, and i cant hear anything weird when i open the hood and dont hit the gas.

Any ideas w/ this one??

nope. a buddy of mine said the fan switch goes bad on these every now and then. but this sounds like a fan that would be on a big truck or something. the car is running at normal temp at all times, and i have coolant. the noise comes and goes as it pleases, but its mostly towards the end of a drive.

any other ideas??

i would bet its the cooling fan clutch thats going bad. it will stick and cause the fan to spin without realsing normaly therefore creating a loud air noise like a deisel

that sounds like you might be right. im going to my mechanic tommrow to get the rear brakes done, so ill have him look at it. how much should something like that cost?? my guess is the nose has to come off for this one which = $$$

Wait so a loud clutch fan isn't normal on these? Cuz mine does sound like a truck.

probably.

you could try getting under the hood and turning the throttle by hand. are you talking about the vicious fan (big one on the drivers side, connected to the crank) or the secondary fan? (electric one on the passenger side)

well no the fan clutch shouldnt be making loud noise all the time. it is supposed to cut off when you reach a higher rpm. i could replace one in under 10 min. on a 2.8 but the 1.8 could be a little more of a pain. you should have to remove the front clip though. the clutch part might cost 150 or so at a dealership not sure on the exact price though. if you were local to dc area i would tell you to come by and i could do it.

if i dont ever use AC, do i really need this fan? or can i just disconnect it until the parts come in? its really annoying and its deff. taxing the power of the car when its on.

i was looking today, i dont think i have to take the nose off for this one cause theres enough room for me to reach the fan, so anything w/ that im sure i can get to.
