2004 a4 1.8T automatic with an EPC idiot light on. (I know this is the B5 board) The car is in Middletown, CT. I'm in Jersey but will be up there next Friday afternoon and most of the day Sat, Dec 1. I can bring the car to you within reasonable miles around. I'll have a Speed Sensor with me. If anyone wants some cash money to replace it for me, and change the oil while you are under there, since it may be easier to remove the oil filter to access the sensor, let me know.

 

So my 2004 a4 came home for Christmas break with the intermittent Engine Speed Sensor problem to be fixed (EPC light). The light was off and there was no code in memory. I had one delivered from europaparts for $71.69 total. It is down on the motor on driver's side behind the oil filter. very simple to remove and replace from the top. removed coolant reservoir, unclipped the electrical level connection so i could move it out of the way, and with 5 MM hex on short ratchet extension, out it came. I pulled it out with pliers but it didn't need much coaxing. The sensor connections are on the firewall under the coolant res. The wire runs off to the passenger side with many others in a bundle, but comes back to the drivers side and down to the motor.
