I'm replacing all of the bearings. Is it necessary to gap the rings, file them down and make sure all of the measurements are spot on?

Doesn't look like any brand name I've ever seen.

does a bear **** in the woods?

Thats the most important part, also have to plastiguage the bearings and torque them properly. It doesn't sound like you know much about engine building, sorry to say, if your gonna do it take it slow or have someone who has done it before help or double check it.

pretty sure he lied, looks exactly like this

First time building an engine, but I'm definitely doing most of the work my self. I have plenty of friends that have built engines before, so I'm not alone on this one.

If your doin all this you should probly bore and stroke it. Atleast stroke to a 2.0. that way youd atleast have new rods because probly atleast one rods shot. Plus you wouldnt have been doin as this for nothing.

considering he has

a - never built an engine
b - has a donor engine with (maybe) good rods and piston
c - strokers cost a few grand and would need a tune and other things

lets just stick to a rebuild.

That's the plan! Thank y'all for the help so far! Motors coming out today! I got the head back from being surfaced and new valves. Is there anything special I do when I install the cams?
