For $4K, you can easily upgrade the turbo to a GRTS elim with fuel injectors, software, etc, and have enough left over for a new clutch to handle the power, and an A8 brake upgrade to slow you back down. At least, I'm pretty sure you could if you research enough and get some good buys... Don't believe me? Here's a good start, upgrade to the GT2871r elim and you can definately make more than 300 HP

Oh, and poohbear, great find, glad you did your research and found one you love and in good shape!

A problem with the 2.8 and forced induction and stuff is that it's much harder to find tuning stuff for it. You'll need to find a shop that can custom tune your car any way you go.

It's not so much the question of witch one is cheaper is more complex than that. Here was my thoughts on building a 300hp 1.8T.

1.8T you will spend 4K but it can be done in stages over a period of time and you biggest purchase will be the turbo (1500$) the rest are a few hundred here and there.

2.8 you need the entire amount all at once

Also with the 1.8T you can make more power with things like stroker kits and bigger turbos.

With the 2.8 the PES charger is close to the end as far as bolt-on power goes

Also with the 2.8 you have cast internals which I hear are only really good for around 12 psi.

You'll love the 1.8T Mine just rolled over 110k and i've got the fully loaded (at least i think) P.S. check audiusa.com/coils for the recall on the ignition coils. Audi replaced all 4 of mine for free.

Don't forget some pics for us....
