New to Audi. Looking at buying an Avant.
Well my wife says we need to get rid of my 98 4runner SR5, that took me so long to find, and get something that gets better fuel mileage.
I'm looking atsome B5 avants. It has to have a 2.8, 5 speed, quattro, and of coursebe anAvant since we have 3 dogs. What are some things that need to be looked for in buying a used one? If I can give my dad a detailed list he can figure things out when/if he goes to look at one. I can't go since I am in Iraq and I want to make sure we don't get ripped off or get something that just need too much work. Any other general information would be great too.

(wtf.. lost my post the first time)
if you're looking for great mpgs the audi 2.8 isn't really the best place to find them. The 5 speed will be a bit better than the auto, but I only get 22 mpg on a 30 miles each way all highway commute. I'm guessing that this isn't all that much better than your 18ish mpg 4runner, (maybe it is?) Anyway if you want to go Audi you may want to consider a 1.8T for mpgs, but then you have to factor in some costs for that as well, a high miles turbo is a bit of a liability, and you need to budget for the chip that you will in inevitably get if you hang around here for too long!! Anyway just encouraing you to check the math with the real mpgs, look at 15,000/year and then see if the math still makes sense after you have to take a loss on your Toyota to get rid of it. etc.
...The audi will be more fun to drive though.
