Exclamation New To The Audi World: Have Some Questions

I recently bought a "new" 98 Audi A4 1.8T. First off it feels super sluggish it takes way too long to hit 80mph. The only maintenance I've done so far was an oil change and change the air filter to a K&N filter. I dont really know to much about the German car game as well as the AWD game. Is there anything else i can do as far as a quick fix to that?

The second problem im having is the rear makes way to much noise. There is deep humming sound wen im at a steady speed.Nothing looks rusty or damaged. What could this be?

And my last major problem I am having is again with the rear. It sways way too much with every little pothole or crack in the road, and feels unstable at higher speeds? I am at a complete loss with this car and really dont want to have to sell it can someone shed some light on this for me? And recommend some online performance and OEM parts? Thanx

Ok, so you claim is takes too long to get to 80mph? Keep in mind that you have 170hp trying to move a 3500lb vehicle, so performance will never be stellar without help. I'd recommend a boost leak test and an ECU chip. You're in luck since ECS is running a sale on APR chips here: OEM / Performance Parts for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche & Volkswagen - ECS Tuning

Secondly, the humming could be wheel bearings or both symptoms could point to inner CV joints. You might also want to consider new shocks and taking a look at bushings and spring cups up front.

Agreed with the above, except that a 98 is only 150hp. Check the FAQ sticky up top for a crash course in the A(udi)BCs.

Ok, so with these chips is it a plug and play or will it need to be dyno tuned? And should I up grade anything before I buy the chip?

Also what suspension would be best I like the bilstien with the h&r spring setup bit I like in NY should i just get coil overs because of the snow, I know It's really about my own preference.. but I would like some opinions..

The chips are plug and play. APR, which I linked you to, has several security options that you can have installed as well. They're plug and play and so is GIAC, of which AWE-Tuning is a major dealer. GIAC also offers the option to send your chip to them for tuning or they'll send you an entirely new chip. The only thing you really need to upgrade is the DV and you can get that for about $70 from Emil on this forum. Here's his site: http://www.krautoparts.com/#!diverter-valves

H&R makes very high quality suspension parts that are genuine German and a little less costly that Bilstein.

Might sound silly, but when's the last time the tires were rotated? On my old A4, I went about 35k miles (dons flame suit) without rotating the tires and they got quite noisy. Rotated them and as the rubber wore in they got much quieter.

Could be a few things there. The factory rear sway bar is less than beefy, you might look into upgrading. If you do, make sure you purchase subframe brackets. If you skip that bit, the stiffer aftermarket swaybar will crack your sub frame and then you're fucked.

Besides the sway bar, check all your control arms. Specifically check the bushings. Control arms on these cars are (arguably) not rebuildable, so you'll want to check all the bushings and make sure they're not clunking or torn up.

You can try AWE Tuning or Car Accessories & Performance Parts For AUDI, BMW, VOLVO, Volkswagen - EuroSport Tuning, Canada & US. Eurosport is owned by the guys that run FS Werks and they make some damn good ****. They mostly cater to Volvos though... You can also try Volvo Parts, BMW Parts, European Car Parts | FCPGroton.com and Audi Parts - Vw Parts - Audi Parts Vw Parts Kit Company - Blauparts
