New owner 2001 2.8
I just started selling Audis about a year ago and I picked up a jewel that was traded in on a new A4. It was a 1 owner silver/black auto with 77k miles in really nice condition. It needed a couple of axle boots and a tailshaft seal which I did. It is seeping a little oil on both valve covers but one of the techs is going to install the gaskets for me. It has a mostly-dead driver information screen but everything else works great.
I do have a question about the power delivery. It is soft up until ~ 2500 where it pulls hard until about 4500 where the power starts to taper off again. Fuel economy is around 21 in mixed driving. Is this normal?
thanks
Mark

Welcome to the forum.
Performance seems about right. Fuel economy too.
Did you get any maintenance records with it? At 77k, the timing service probably hasn't been done, but with components more than 10 years old, you should do it very soon.
Enjoy the new ride and post some pictures for the rest of us.

Change your fuel filter. Clean or replace your spark plugs. The timing procedure is a must regardless. And like Bob said replace the cam tensioner seals. They will keep on leaking even if you replace the valve cover gaskets.
You should also check out all your vacuum lines and look for leaks. They can be a bit**
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned, along with the 2 cam seals and valve cover gasket, he also needs to have his tech, replace the half moon seal and its metal gasket seal. unless 2.8 B5's don't have a moon and metal gasket seal, like the 1.8T's?
I just got my VC gasket, 2 cam seals done about 1 week ago and the half moon and metal gasket seal looked so worn!
I also would like to let the original poster know, that he can easily get his information screen, repaired. I plan to have my personal Audi tech, that only works on VW and audi's replace my screen for 150.00 for labor and replacement screen!
I have never saw my precious Audi's show her screen before, it will be a breath of fresh air, when i finally see all her information, showing on the screen without any pixelation.

Im stupid. The title of the topic clearly states this is a 2.8 and I thought it was a 1.8t.
And yes Morpheus.. the half moon seals should be replaced in pair with the cam tensioner seals. I didn't mention that because they usually come in pairs, at least they did when I bought them from Victor-Reinz.

Your name, Kamil sounds very familiar. Did you come to the Meets, ImTheDevil hosted along with Bill that owns the B5 passat? I went to 2 of them. one was at Bill's house and the other was at a camp site with a bon fire in upstate new york.
I also replaced the complete crankcase ventilation system on my A6 thinking that it was contributing to the oil leaking. It's not too hard and not too expensive. Got mine at Blauparts.com
