New Owner In Need Of Help!
I just bought my 1998 audi a4 with 135k miles for $2000. And I have a few problems I need help with and thought this would be the right place to ask.
1st problem- Upper control arm little nipple broke off in the spindle so to get it out I had to cut the bolt and bend the one side out to get it out. So I need new spindle and can't find one anywhere ebay has some but they are from a VW and don't want to buy if it doesn't fit. So where can I find a new spindle or If i get one from ebay from what year/model VW can fit on my a4.
2nd- I got a bunch of codes and lights.
p0422
p0300,p0301,p0302--I think plugs are gone took them out they look bad and smell like fuel.
p1300
p1137
If you know what is the most common part or whatever that goes out and needs fixing to get rid of codes please help.
and last my abs and ebreak lights are on but ebreak light flashes.
Thanks guys!

The arms on the Passat 1.8t are the same thing. You can check www.car-parts.com for that part for the Audi.
You can look up your codes here http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tec...l=&ticket=none

ebay has a complete CA set for about 250 bucks, and the general concensus here on AF is that ebay is bad, except for CA's. If they haven't been replaced recently, you might as well go ahead and do it soon, otherwise you'll have what was once referred to as the "Mercury Topaz Mod" (can't remember who said it, but still makes me laugh) where you suspension will squeek over every bump and turn, and even getting in and out of the car. Mine is doing that, and it is the first thing on my list of things to do when I get home, followed by a CV joint and a TB job. (BTW, you're about due for a timing belt job yourself. If you don't know when the last time it was done, then it's time for a new one.)
The ABS light is common due to a connector under the seat becoming loose and temporily disconnected. You need VAG-COM to reset that light, and the blinking break light could be as simple as your break fluid is low. Check it, and add some DOT4 if it needs some, but don't add too much. If your break pads are low, when you change them and compress the calipers, you'll overflow the resevoir, and brake fluid is the last thing you want spilling everywhere.
Not sure what all the codes are, but I'm sure 0300 is random multiple misfires, and 0301 and 0302 are cylinders 1 & 2. Probably plugs if you said they look bad (if you have a 1.8T, they are notorious for eating spark plugs) but could be the coil packs. That's an easy check, do a search to learn more.
Finally, a good Seafoam treatment is always nice to help clean up an old, tired engine.

1997-2000 A4 1.8t has the smaller front wheel bearing. The 2001 A4 1.8t got the larger bearing which is also used on the A4 2.8 and S4 2.7t.

ABS light and blinking brake light often means there is an issue with the ABS module, and it needs to be repaired. My car is like this as well, and before I performed a DIY repair the ABS module wasn't even showing up on VAG-COM... After the ABS module repair VAG-COM is telling me there is an internal memory problem with it, so it would still need professional repair
Damn, you're right... wow, how did I get that messed up? I actually typed ABS, and my brain still was thinking airbag...
CCA4, I know you'll see this eventually, can I get a face palm please? I think I earned one here...

Ok guys thanks for the help. I got a spindle from the junkyard for $50 bucks replaced it. Took all plugs out changed them then was still misfiring in cyl 1 and changed coil it ran awesome. After the car got warmed up it started missing again real bad, It was dark out by now and I poped the hood and my downpipe was glowing! What do you guys think it is the cat ( had check engine light main catalyst eff below threshold bank1) maybe its clogged and can't get air through or is it my turbo that went kapoooooiiii.
Usually the down pipe is after the CAT so if the cat was clogged it wouldn't cause the down pipe to glow, now if for some reason your cat is after your DP it would then cause it to glow if it was clogged.
I am sorry my mistake it was the cat that was glowing and now its misfiring in cyl 2. So I don't know if its cause of the cat being clogged or what im just having so many problems with this car. Is there a cheap place to buy a cat or can I unclog it somehow? I am just trying to fix this and sell it got a few people that want to come look at it but can't sell it since it just started acting up again. I found a nice audi I want to get.
