Default new and ready to learn

hey guys i just bought a 1998 a4 quattro 1.8t im replacing all the control arms and brakes and bearing as we speak but im looking for some professional advice on what i should be replacing afterwards. it does has 280 000 kms and im trying to baby it while i shove new parts into it. i have a new muffler ill be ordering soonand im thinking of getting a new turbo asap after my chip. also looking into a paintjob but before this, id like some real advice. id love to shove performance parts in there but if its gonna die on me cause im not replacing the right parts itd really suck cause i love the audi. any tips, tricks, reads or links to anything that i could advance my knowledge of this car would be greatly appreciated. feel free to msg me if need be.

Chris.
PS ive been buying off of autopartsway.ca since free shipping and great prices but if anyone knows any good sites itd be great.

First off, regarding a chip - wait and do it with the turbo unless you're getting another stock turbo. If you upgrade you'll need a reflash so be very sure which way you're going to go beforehand so you don't waste money.

Second - timing system. Has it been done in the last 60k miles? If so (and you have proof of this, not just the sellsr's word), then great. If it hasn't been proven, do it. You'll hate your life if it fails.

Third - the other known weak points on the car are combi switches (aka headlight/signal switch), wheel bearings, ignition switch, and coil packs. You're certainly in the window where one or more could fail. None are particularly costly, but be aware of them. Change your fuel filter too - it's less than $20 and not that much of a pain, and it can save you grief down the road.

Otherwise, if the car is solid, enjoy it.
