Newer Drivetrain Retrofit
So currently thinking about what to do with the A4, but not sure on direction.... She has 300k so coming up for a freshening but how and what to do. I've taken the stroker route with my VR6 but not really interested in going all out with the A4. The youngest son will inherit in the next 2-3yrs so definitely not looking for BT or high Hp config's, just something reliable and quicker then stock.
If I look at the K04-015 route with the fueling upgrades & exhaust then we'll be in the 230-240hp range which is adequate for the son, when the time comes. Going this route we'll need to open up the AEB to change the wearible items, so based on some rough estimates for parts & machining, we spend $900-1300. The K04 with fueling(PC16,inj & manifold) will cost another $800-1300 if I can find some deals.
Total =1700-2600
Since I'm not looking for big hp numbers what about retrofitting a newer low milage AWM/ATW/AUG ino the A4? Some questions would be, is the Motronic ME7.1 workable on the older chasis which came with ME5.8.2 ? I could part or sell the AEB to finance, whcih I'm sure I could find some takers for the large port head alone!! The O1A trans is giving up it's 1st/2nd syncro so I will need to find a newer used 5 speed, so why not look for a 'front clip' with engine/trans & ECU to retrofit ? With a chip on the newer motor I'll be looking at roughly the same hp, in addtition to a 'factory built' motor..
