Check the shift linkage where it bolts to the shifter arm coming out of the transmission. Make sure you got the bolt into the small hole on the arm when you tightened the bolt.

Is it just that you cant get the shifter into 1st-2nd, like you are being locked out? If so also check the shift linkage pivot bolts that are on the sides of the transmission. I had one break on me causing the linkage inside the transmission not to slide correctly keeping me out of 1st and 2nd gear. They pivot bolt head is a 12 point IIRC. If you need pictures showing the location of the 2 bolts let me know, I have 2 transmissions sitting in the garage.

here is what it looks like when its broken.

If you are going into 3rd when pushing the shifter to the left your shifter has moved or your shift linkage isn't set right. Check to see how the shifter sits while in neutral, if its sits different then you didn't put something back correctly. I will take pics of the bolt locations tomorrow.

Glad it was something simple. I just got done pulling my transmission, just need to put the new one back in.

Cool. Let me know if you have any questions about anything and how it feels once the break-in period is over.

Exclamation same thing

I am having the same problem with my tranny, I tried messing with the linkage under the boot to no avail, those pics of where the bolt is supposed to be with the tranny and all that would be quite useful (I know this is an old thread... but worth a shot)

Thanks

Here you go.

Slider bolt on the driver side. It is located just behind the slave cylinder for the clutch.

Slider bolt on the passenger side. It is located just behind the front axle flange.
