If you go by the book the police would pull you over for doing 56mph in a 55, and ticket you every time. Why don't they do this?

Sure, we don't have to talk to the police, or consent to search, etc etc, but officers are people too. If they see you as a good person they'll be more lenient than if you're an *** to them. On another forum there is an 'Ask an officer' thread with over 4,000 posts and they say if you're respectful, they'll be very nice. If you're an *** to them they will look for every violation they can find and write you up for it. A lot of the times officers pull you over to check for bigger problems (drugs/stolen car) and really don't mind that you were going 10 over or that you have no front plate

Audimania, you sound pretty ignorant. Even if you don't like cops you still should respect them like human beings. That means rolling your window down all the way so they feel safe. You have to remember that cops are just ordinary people doing their jobs. Some of them are dicks but with most of them if you're a civil person they'll extend to you whatever courtesy they can.

I was not being a dick. The cop did not like the fact that I did not roll down the window for him all the way. He told me to roll it down more but I refused to because I did not want him to stick his face in my car. Cops have a job, and I respect that, but their main goal is to arrest you and they will go on and beyond the means to do so. I have the right to protect my personal property. I also think that he did not like the fact that I started the conversation with a firm "How can I help you?" .

You signed your license at the DMV. This gives the police the right to stop you and check your "property" as they see fit. You sacrifice a lot of your typical property "rights" by signing a license because it is a privilege to drive, not a right.

And what property were you trying to protect?? By not rolling down the window as he asked, you were not complying. You annoyed him. Plead not guilty, install the front plate, save 93 bucks, and stop losing sleep.

I believe that there is a 5 mph cushion. I did not use any disrepectful or demeaning language. I treated him just as I would any stranger. I don't think that I can get off without getting a ticket unless I had a nice pair of melons. I bet pyropenguin has a nice pair.

Can you prove that?

On the personal note, thank you for your help.

Tweaked has a valid point. The cop even told you how to get out of the ticket so just do that and don't post any more threads about your front license plate.

lmfao, I'm a 18 year old guy and all of the officers were male... I don't think sex appeal had anything to do with it. Legally there is no 5mph cushion, most officers wont pull you over for 7-8mph over though.

You could legally go faster then the posted speed limit if you are passing in the left lane. This is limited and varies to statutes.

The reason for the 5mph cushion goes back to old school speedo errors. I also think it is unreasonable to expect a person to have the car under such strict control that they can maintain exactly xx mph at all times.

I was told to always be respectful of Mr/Ms policeman and they have let me slide on some little stuff. Not judging AudimaniaA4, but I would have damn sure rolled my window down if asked. Not like I have tons of experience, but when I have been pulled over, I get to a safe area where I can pull wayyyy off the road giving the officer a decent buffer between him and moving metal. Oh ya, and I've been super nice before and got the freakin ticket anyway, so you're right....some do suk no matter what.

I bet pyropenguin has a nice pair.
I'd like to hear the story behind that sig pic.

Yeah you really cant hate on cops, they are there to protect and serve you... i love cops (my mom was a CT trooper, but she hated giving tickets bc of the paperwork behind it). what you did was kinda stupid.. just be nice to them even of they are a$$holes to you.
