Default No spark cylinder #2

Hi all. Some of you may remember my Audi adventures from last summer. Did an engine swap in my sons A4 after he ignored the warning noises coming from the timing belt area. I check in from time to time to see what is happening.

Anyway, to the point. He is having a misfire issue on cylinder #2. I have read all of the threads and performed all of the checks that have been suggested that I could do and it seems it may be a bad ICM. As I dont have a good one to swap out with to check it I was wondering if there is anything else I could/should check before I step out and purchase a new ICM.

I have done the following:
replaced plugs
swapped around coil packs (even purchased a new one just to be sure)
checked ground/wiring to coils and ICM
checked fuses (dont know if there are any for coils but all fuses were good)
Disconected the battery for a couple of hours (clear the codes this way?)

When I start the car you can tell it has a dead cylinder. I pulled each coil one at a time while running and each cylinder had a distinctive spark jump from coil to plug except for cylinder #2. As stated before, it stays with cylinder #2 even when changing the coils around.

Also, I have not taken it to have any codes pulled as I do not want to run the risk of driving it with a dead cylinder and possibly damaging something else.

Let me know what you guys think please.

Thanks again for a very informative sight!

Everything I have heard points to this being a bad ICM. This issue is one of the reasons why I converted my AEB engine over to ATW-style coils, which have an ICM built into each coil (no external ICM).

When I removed my ICM from the swap it was working flawlessly. I'm not sure how many miles it has (was on the car when I bought it at 110k, and the ICM has another 25k miles on top of that). If you'd like I can sell you my used ICM for a reasonable price, at least this way you could verify whether or not the ICM is at fault without spending a bundle of cash.

Thanks for the replies. I am pretty sure it is the ICM as well.

Thanks for the offer MetalMan but I really would like to get this thing out of my garage this weekend. Otherwise I would not mind going that route.

I will let you know how it comes out.

Thank again, Vince

Ah, but I did. Before last summer I knew absolutely NOTHING about an Audi. Everything that I now know is because of you folks and this forum. I have a big chunk of $ invested in my sons A4 and could only imagine how much more it would be if I had to have someone else do it. The amount of useful information here is priceless. I probably would not have tackled the job without it.

Much thanks!
