Odd drive problem unsure please help!
Hi all
Ive got an AEB B5 A4 and i'd been having a problem which seems to have gotten much worse.
Originally it started off as a gurgle in the engine when I would accelerate in neutral (I couldn't hear it when I was driving along cos of road noise).
I work at a VW/Audi shop so I got one of the mechs to look at it. i was told it could be the camshaft tensioner, and since I put 5w 30 oil in that I could expect a gurgling sound.
i then found that the gurgling sound only occurs when the clutch pedal is RELEASED, and if I increased rpm to over 2000 and pressed down on the clutch and released it again and again the gurgling sound would come every time i let go of the clutch. I thought it was the gearbox so i took it to my work again but this time another person look at it. He said it is most likely the oil pump, and he said that the sound is coming from the top end. I asked him why he doesnt think it's the gearbox or clutch cos it only happens when i take my foot off the clutch. He gave me a good explanation but I am afraid I forgot.
TODAY I am driving along, pull up at a set of lights and my rpm starts bouncing, fearing it would stall I gave it some revs and set off. Now when I drive along I can feel faint drops of power. Its the feeling that something just isn't right. Its not a jerking problem, it just drops in power at all power bands. Doesnt matter if I am flooring it or driving in the most delicate manner.
Lastly, another mechanic told me I have a small turbo leak. Could this be at all related?
I do a lot of driving and I really do like my car so I really wanna know if this is a very bad thing, if I should completely stop driving and what I should expect the problem to be.
thanks for reading this very long post, but I just thought i'd outline EVERYTHING.
thanks in advance, your help is very much appreciated friends.

hmmmm
the small boost leak is probably to blame for your RPMs bouncing. You may also have an intake leak/MAF problem or a vac leak that would lead to similar issues.
it is my understanding that the cam chain tensioner sound is more of a ticking from the top of the engine, not so much a gurgling but I don't have any personal experience.
the mechanic who told you oil pump may be on the right track. with your particular engine, my first guess in that regard would be a clogged/obstructed/collapsed oil pickup tube.
