Oil Change FROM HELL !!! Is it totaled??
OK here are my codes:
P0741 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance/Stuck Off
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1
P0010 - Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit /open Bank 1
And here is the story behind them:
Ok I was changing my oil for the first time on my Audi 2001 1.8T Quattro b5 Model and the first thing I saw was a pan and I turned the Hex Drain Plug and out came the fluid. Then I went up top and poured in 5 quarts of Oil. Got in the car and drove off, NOT KNOWING I drained all the Transmission fluid!! and my car now had 10+ Quarts of Oil in it!!! I heard knocking pulled over and noticed I could no longer shift. I drove it for about 3 min before gettin it back and up in the air. Now while driveing I got 3 codes come up, the ones I listed up top. Plus the oil pressure light came on. I draind the oil and put the Correct amount in and the knocking went away but the cat has been burning off oil now for 2 days. I filled the tranny back up and the shiftin has returned but it still seems sluggish out of first gear, had the codes re-ran and all the same. I think the tranny might still be low on oil or I blew my Torque Converter, what do you think??
I know I prob blew the Cat, but why would the cam sensor be fried because of it??
Please ANY Help would be appreciated!!!

k so you see an oil pan right at the bottom of you engine, you also see a transmission.
what went through your head in the decision making process that led you to go with the one that wasnt directly below where your pistons are?!?!?!
i really dont get it.
you should bring it in somewhere and have them look it over for you.

Slowly losing my faith in humanity with every post I read about someone draining their trans and overfilling the block.
Seriously, didn't it click that something wasn't quite right when you saw discolored fluid that smelled nothing like engine oil draining out?
Didn't it click when you (If you?) Checked your oil level before driving and saw it was WELL over max?
Didn't it click when you saw that you were clearly at a transmission and not an engine?
Sigh.

So you don't check you oil level before driving off?

Ya know, maybe people get scared when they see the wind tray on the bottom. Instead of removing it, they just keep scooting back until they see something that looks like a drain plug, and go for it.
its a lot easier to take the time to remove a couple clips / screws, slide the plastic away for a couple mins, drain the oil, than to fry your tranny and overload your engine with oil. $$$$
oh and wouldn't it seem odd that you didn't have to remove a filter?
i change my filter every time i change oil.

i read this earlier and was in total awe, left me speechless so i didnt post anything.
@chewster i hope luck is on your side, and maybe next time you should get someone to do it for you. If you do wish to become a little more mechanically inclined, read some DIY and observe the work before tackling it.
