Default oil light keeps coming on??

my 1996 a4 quattro oil keeps coming on. ive checked the dipstick and its full.
could it be a bad sensor?

it started doing it as soon as i cleaned my egr valve and took it out for a test drive.

if it is the light that is just below and to the left of your high beam indicator light, it is an oil PRESSURE warning. if your oil level is OK, you may have an oil pump or sludge problem

or it could be a bad sensor

good luck

thanks for the help!

but i guess there is no way to check which problem for sure it could be. im the one that fixes any problems on my car, and dropping the oil pan doesn't sound like to much fun. haha

get a manual pressure gauge. I believe that you can put it in one of the oil lines at the oil cooler. there should be a thread around here somewhere that lists what the pressures should be a different RPMs. That should let you know if it is a sensor problem or a genuine oil pressure problem.

hopefully your thread will catch the attention of one of the B5 gurus around here and they can give you something better.

good luck and let us know how it goes
