Default Oil Pan: FAIL

So I was working late, and thought some Del Taco was a good idea. (it rarely is....if ever) As I was crossing the parking lot to get to the exit where I could turn left on to the street I crashed hard on to a dip. Since it was dark and raining I didn't notice it coming and even though I was going really slow it hit really hard and I knew I was screwed. I hopped out to check underneath, and sure enough... cracked and leaking. DRIP..DRIPDRIPDRIP So bitter about this right now!! There was a gas station there and I put a quart of oil in, figured that it wasn't leaking so fast that I couldn't get home so I drove it home so I didn't have to deal with a surly tow truck guy at 2AM. Got home with plenty of oil left and it's draing into an oil collector now. The breakfast burrito was lacking flavor of anykind.

1.) I'm planning to pull the pan tomorrow to see how bad the damage is. Maybe it is easily TIG welded back into working order?

2.) If welding the crack isn't an option, who has the best price on oil pans? What's the price point? Is used an option?

3.) It happened in a parking lot that was kind of inbetween the Del Taco and some tire shop. Is it even worth harassing the managers that their parking lot sucker punched my Audi?

4.) Why the hell aren't the frame rails lower than the oil pan?

5.) FTS.

it's aluminum so you'll need some skills for that. check out ebay or get one from a salvage yard. it's because audi create a gigantic engine lol. get a panzer underbelly pan from dieselgeek.com

Happened to me too, same car, same color, almost the same milage. I found one off ebay I paid around 60-70. New that can be 120 or so. I had my old one welded first and it didn't hold, I would bag that idea. Too bad the burrito sucked too. Might want to check your oil pickup screen while your in there.

same thing happend to me about two months ago.
Instead of buying a new pan I used some epoxy putty to seal the cracks I had.

http://www.sylmasta.com/acatalog/cop...tty_Stick.html

the product looked something along the lines of this which can be picked up at autozone or pep boyz.

new oil pan at my cost was like 160 for original. but i think panzar plate is worth it. Especially if your roads suck.

be glad its not a VR6 you have cause their oil pan sits a lot lower than ours.

choices, either your really good with welding and can weld it back, pullit and JBWeld the hell out of it, it should last for a while (a really long while i had mine on for a year before i got new pan) or if you end up needing a new pan DP on ebay are good, yes i know ebay is never good but i got mine from them in desperation and they have so far been very good, the pan is exactly to OEM spec and everything.

i did this all myself before due to cracking my oil pan after getting all 4 tires off the ground. anyways the install was a bitch. I have a 99.5 a4 1.8t and inorder to drop the pan u have to jack up the engine. you cant drop the cross member and it was a bitch. defintaly worth it considered i saved alot of money. i bought a new pan from audi cause i needed it ASAP and it cost me 200 with gaskets, so i sucked it up and bought it. the job took me like 4hrs and made me mad lol. anyways good luck and if klum is correct about the $80 then thats sick. as for it being easy tho idk man. i do lots of work on my car and other cars and this was prob one of the hardest jobs ive done on any car. Maybe i just dont no something and there is a much easier way but as far as i no rasing the engine is the only way.
Goodluck

And no i just saw in fine print you have a 2.8 so hopefully it will be much easier for you. Cheers
