Default Oil & Water temp gauges not working :(

So i just bought this car yesterday, and while driving home I noticed that the water temp and oil temp didn't move. they were stuck in the cold position, and would randomly jump to about 1/4 the way.

any ideas?

My water temp does the same thing. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions.

From what I've read the coolant temp sensor (CTS) can cause this behavior for the coolant temp gauge. It's about $25 in parts to replace.

Check the electrical connections, battery, relay etc. Abrupt electrical signals could cause the gauge to jump. If this doesn't help, you can check individual sensors.

Same thing happens for me. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and it didnt help. Im hoping it has to do with the thermostat since im replacing it this weekend anyway.
