Default Water temp guage does nada?

Been driving around a while.. Mostly to and from work, which is just enough time for the engine to get to operating temps. (I get to get on the boost once before Im a couple of blocks away, and then get to let it cool down.. yay...)

Anyways, My water temp guage is acting funny, and its been doing it for a while..
A couple of times a week it'll work, intermitently durring the drive... but then most of the time, the water temp is all the way to the left (cold)..
I know I have the sensor hooked up.. is it possibly bad? Anyone have any clue?

The oil temp works just fine..

Thanks!

Could be your coolant temp sensor. Do you have trouble starting your car if it's warm already?

It was only a couple of bucks more for 2 days, and I didnt want to wait 2 weeks (like all the rest of the other times...)

Besides I have time next week to do it.. and I'd like to make use of it.

hes probably more worried about saving gas, when my sensro finally went all the way out were it didnt even move intermittenly i was getting maybe 12 mpg, the second i changed the sensor my mpg wnet straight to 25 when driving like an *** and about 30 for normal driving. btw what car did you have if you wanted i would have sold you a new sensor for $10 and shipped it free, it would also probably been cheaper to go to an auto parts store, audi was charging me $90 for an old faulty sensor when NAPA sold me the upgrade blue one for $12 even cheaper than the $30 i paid for the green top.

blue top were the older types used from 96 to 98.5, they had a square 4-pin connector. the green top was used on the new models and had a half square half circle connector. originally my car ( older one) had a black top sensor which is prone to failure. and the blue top is apparently the upgrades model as well as the green top for its respective cars.
