Poor Starting TDi
Hi,
Can anyone help a newbie to this forum please?
I have a 98 A4 Tdi SE (red I) manual. Its done 215k miles.
Recently it has been getting more and more difficult to start, and now refuses to start unless i hold the glowplug relay in for about 10 sec before and during cranking. it will eventually fire with lots of smoke. The head gasket has been done last year, and once running it still goes like a train. Uses no oil or water.
I've checked the fuel lines, replaced the filter and looked at all the vacuum lines - all of which seem fine.
Any suggestions please?

Have managed to get proscan to talk to it (had to have engine running and do live diagnostics for it to pick up the fault. numbers 1265 and 1266 - Glow plug relay short to earth and EGR control short to earth. All i've got to do now is find where! Any suggestions?
