problem with oil dipstick
When I recently purchased my audi(01a4 1.8t), I went to check the oil on the dipstick and the entire dipstick holder came out. I got my oil changed today and they reminded me of it, they said they tried to fix it but it wouldnt stay where they thought it should be. The only problem is it's causing the dipstick to show a low oil level, and a little bit of frustration on my part.. anyway to fix this without taking it to a dealer?
Having just replaced mine last week, I can almost promise you that it's broken. There should be a clip on the side of it that attaches to a little arm thingy coming off the block, then a lip on the bottom that fits into the metal part of the tube coming out of the block. Mine was EXTREMELY brittle, and by the time i got done replacing it, was broken into about 20 or 30 pieces.
the outer tube at bottom is OK but the inner tube that goes into the oil chamber is a piece of garbage and that is what cracks Now some of the plastic will get into the oil but do not worry as it will not go anywhere vital.
Take small cover where dipstick is off and the two bolts the hold the flat metal plate then move the flat plate to right side almost flips over should be able to reach from there Item # 06A103663B

Definitely possible. A new dipstick and dip stick tube are about $10 together from ECS, might be worth replacing them.
nope thats it. In your post that I quoted earlier, you mentioned that the metal is just twisted to the side or something right? That little metal arm should come out off the block parallel to the ground, then there should be a short 90* bend that clips into the dipstick tube. Take a picture of what you've got and maybe we'll be able to help you figure out whats goin on. Hopefully the previous owner didn't do anything dumb.
