Well. New problem. Not sure how this happened, so please, enlighten me with any ideas you folks may have.

Here's the scoop: Changed out the plugs. Went smoothly, no issues, the old came out and the new went in. They were very very fouled, my dad says he's seen worse, but they definitely needed replaced.

Started her up, and not much improvement. Rough idle, but relatively smooth when revved. The misfires had ceased and all seemed well, but I could hear a distinct ticking that didn't sound quite right. Got looking around and there was a spark arcing from the underside of the ignition wire to the coil pack harness, causing the rough idle. When I revved the RPMs up above 1000, my dad said it stopped. When I pulled the wire off the coil pack, there was a small hole in the rubber so I figured that was where it was arcing through so I wrapped some electrical tape around it and it didn't help any.

So, do I need a new wire or a new coilpack? I was planning on starting with the wire and seeing if that took care of it, but I just thought I'd check for your opinions on what else might be going on.

Thanks again everyone

You need new wires.

Electrical tape is only good for 600v, your pushing 45 thousand

That would explain it haha. So do I have to get all 6 replaced or can I just replace the one and call it good for now?

Well, if ones bad.....

However, if you can find just the one, you can do it now and save for a good set later. You might be able to find a good used one.

Having issues finding a used one and no one sells them individually, I can only find them in sets of 3 or sets of 6.

However, until I can afford a whole new set, a few more layers of electrical tape around the area the arc was in and things are running smoothly, no stuttering, smooth idle, overall good to go. What a fun adventure, this seafoam job. I should have enough saved in a week or two to order a new set of wires. I would imagine the 6 or 7 layers of electrical tape will hold that long.

I Was considering seafoaming, and my 2.8 could definitley use it, but I'm pushing 176k so it just doesn't seem like the best idea given the miles.

Oh it can still be done.. just do it over several weekends. Like 1/4 can weekend one, 1/4 can weekend two, 1/2 can weekend three. This way you remove a little at a time. Actually, I went to Advanced and got 4 bottles of Techron (buy one get one) and am on my second tank and 4th bottle in a row - 2 of the smaller bottles to a tank since the smaller ones only do 12 gals - so I'm at ~150% of recommended. After this 'pre-cleaning', I'll run 2 more tanks of premium to flush it out then Seafoam as above while using a whole can in the tank between weekends 2 and 3.

Yea, I'm wishing I had done something like that, slowly eased the gunk out of there rather than blowing it to pieces all at once. Granted, my plugs were due for a change anyway and I had been planning on doing the wires as well (tho that problem wasn't related to the seafoam) so I wouldn't necessarily say it was a wholly bad move, but if you're not looking to replace plugs soon, ease into it like midniteoyl said and you should be fine.
