question about the a4 2.8 12v
i have been searching for possible upgrades to this engine and it seems everyone agrees that there is nothing performance-wise worth doing to this engine, but that the 30v has aftermarket upgrades. i do not know anything about this engine or this car for that matter, but having come from a fully built evo IX i cannot accept the idea of not being able to modify my car. my question is that since the 30v is upgradeable and the 12v is not are the heads of these engines interchangeable along with the ecu? i mean if it is just the head that makes the difference can i swap it out and then continue modifying? i have the car and i dont really wanna trade it for another, but i also must modify the slowness of it... anyone that knows more about this please chime in
also i have a 1997 a4 2.8 quattro and i understand this is a total noob question, but do i for sure have a 12v? sorry the car did not come with an owners manual and i do not know enough about this car to tell what engine it has... is there an obvious look to the engine that will tell me which one it is or does the year it was made give it away?
twas time for a change lol and i was originally looking at bmws but picked this up instead... i hope that there is a supercharger for it i dont wanna have to go buy another car can anyone tell me if there is for sure a supercharger? yea i had the evo forever and it was a little too built and not a good daily driver so i was wanting a change.

Heads aren't interchangeable. You could swap the engine for a 30v (or 1.8T or 2.7T), but it's cheaper to sell it and buy a car with one of those engines. Motodyne had a blower for the 12v but their reputation was pretty bad from the responses of those who bought it and it's not considered reputable.
A 12v engine has small valve covers and plugs below them. A 30v has plugs centered in the valve covers and the side covers say "5V" on them to denote the 5 valves per cylinder design.
