Default A question. Now in full color!

Should there be a pin or bolt in this spot? Possibly keeping things aligned or together?

And yes, that is my wife's kitchen towel

It is my understanding those holes are to show how well aligned various structures of the car are. Holes like that are located in various places around your car. For them to be misaligned that suggests there was a front-end collision or something like that at some point...

Wouldn't an impact strong enough to do that deploy the airbags? Also if they were, isn't that something the carfax should have seen? Assuming of course it was reported.

Is this something I need to worry about and get repaired. I'll diy a lot of stuff but major body work I know is beyond my skills.

well if your frame is out of whack, your car is totaled. dont worry about it, those holes look fine anyway. i cant think of where that black piece goes that has the bottom hole in it

Not sure what kind an impact could shift the holes that much, but... if it drives and doesn't have any odd symptoms, I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

A few weeks ago I actually crashed my car into a curb at about a 30 deg. angle going around 35mph. Passenger side airbag in the seat deployed, the lower control arms especially the lower rear (on passenger side) were bent pretty badly, front passenger wheel was destroyed, and the rear end hit messing up the axle beam's alignment noticeably (it's a FWD). I'm doing all the repair work myself and paying out-of-pocket. So far the cost is up to about $1300 for control arms, airbag module (this has to be replaced whenever an airbag deploys), new set of wheels/tires, rear axle beam (picking up today), and I will need to get a new passenger seat in the future.
Long story short, even though I've been driving my car pretty much since I crashed, when everything's all fixed nobody will know or be able to find out my car was damaged. The alignment holes for the subframe aren't noticeably out-of-whack either

The subframe is slotted so just cuz those holes dont line up doesnt automatically mean it's been in an accident. If you've ever had a clutch done they could have put the subframe back up wrong.

So perhaps that is the purpose of those holes. To assist in aligning the subframe. I haven't dug that far down on the intake side. Is there a matching one on that side?
