Default rattling on deceleration only

OK so I got a metallic rattling that happens only when the engine is decelerating. it happens when im moving, when im stopped, no matter if the clutch is engaged or disengaged. the sound is louder when downshifting. The sound seems to be coming from the front driver's side. Also, the rattling is more apparent in the car. Ive been under the car to look for the colprate but have come up empty handed. its driving me insane!! Any ideas??

some rattling is normal, especialy when you make the engine dip below idle. you can replace your motor and transmission mounts, that will help a little bit but theres always a little vibration. if its really like metal on metal banging, it could be your cat on its way out, or just something rattleing on something else, like a heatshield on your exhaust or driveshaft.

the rattling is getting worse. ive been trying to find it on my own which is hard because you have to rev the motor and let it decelerate to hear it. it happens mostly from 3-2k rpm. its louder in the car too. in my garage, if i rev it with the window down I cant hear anything outside the car. I dont think its the heat shield, it seems to me its coming from the driver side of the engine so i dont think its the cat either. the ratteling will decelerate with the motor and get louder if you brake hard. it sounds almost like gear teeth on a housing...

sounds like your flywheel might need resurfacing... is the car driving fine?

Probably your cam chain tensioner. Have youreved the engine at the t-body to replicate it?

Flywheel chatter would be noticeable at idle only.

ive revved it with my head in the engine bay using the throttle body and you cant hear the distinct rattle like when in the car

If you rev the car without the clutch engaged it usually rattles on the rpm fall. Thats on a lightweight though... But if its all banged up it could make funny noises any time...

I agree with the possibilty of the cam chain tensioner though.

OK, that's confusing.
