rear brake job

Default rear brake job

going on a paid vacation from work. going to bang out my rear brakes pads/rotors/calipers/e brake cable/ wondering what tools I need so I don't have to come back to work during my vacation to grab tools. Thanks

piston depress tool, the kind that twists as you depress the piston back into the caliper.

Make sure you have penetrating fluid and you soak all the bolts. The Allen cap screws can strip out. Get a set of bolt extractor bits (aka "bitey bits") - essential in any toolbox no matter what.

You're kidding me? Our calipers "turn-In" (like the bullshit Nissan calipers)???

Yep. But i do it with a pair of channel locks and a big C-clamp. Soetimes the turning force of the C-clamp is enough to turn the piston on.

So they turn in clockwise? That's a good idea (the C Clamp)!!

Yep. Same direction as a C-clamp that's tightening. Just be careful you keep the channel-lock teeth off that boot around the piston.

Just "rent" the right tool for the job from Auto Zone or something like that.

It beats having the drum brake on the inside of the rotor... Really not that bad if you have the right tool.
